Learning how to make money online requires specialized training. It’s not as simple as starting a blog, writing posts, and hoping for the best. There are a lot of online training programs that promise to teach you how to be successful in online marketing. One such program is AWOL Academy which has a few different programs that specialize in different areas of the online marketing world. In this AWOL Academy review, I’ll look inside to see if you can learn anything of value here. Is there anything different about these particular programs? Or are they simply a way to separate you from your money? Let’s find out.

What is AWOL Academy?

Awol Academy Logo Let’s start with some basic company information. AWOL Academy was founded in January 2015 and is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to Crunchbase, AWOL Academy is described as “the most comprehensive internet marketing education and mentorship platform.” The founders are Kameron George and Keala Kanae. Back in August 2019, AWOL Academy was officially relaunched and rebranded. The philosophy seems to be the same. The two original founders parted ways due to their different visions for the company. A major component of this rebranding also had to do with the negative perception of the company.

How Does AWOL Academy Work?

AWOL Academy helps people learn how to make money online by providing training, community and support and has a number of training programs to choose from. They are listed below.

AWOL Academy Courses

Pro Academy – $99

Become a Pro Internet Marketer: this program takes you step-by-step through setting up a sales funnel. This course comes with your own domain and website, conversion tracking system, email marketing, and lead-capture pages.

Internet Income Explained – $49

Learn the Basics of Internet Marketing: this course will teach you how online sales processes and digital marketing works.

Inbox Academy – $447

Email Marketing: this course is designed to teach you “secret strategies used by the world’s best email marketers” to increase the number of subscribers to your email list.

Conversion Academy – $1,797

Converting leads into customers: this course outlines creative ways to connect with your audience using techniques such as hypnotic language, story telling, presentations and persuasive copy.

Traffic Academy – $2,997

Masters Academy – $5,497

Masters Create Their Own Success: here you will learn how to manage your money, investing, strategic tax planning and more to help you grow your business. As you can see from the courses above, they eventually become quite pricey and it’s really not clear what you are exactly getting for your money.

Pros of AWOL Academy:

  • Money-back Guarantee refund policy AWOL Academy offers a 14-day money back guarantee if you are not happy with your training.
Awol Academy Review Guarantee
  • Innovative New Techniques According to Forbes, Keala Kanae, the founder, considers himself “the badass” of freelance digital marketing. His philosophy is to look for unconventional ways to drive traffic to websites and teach this to his clients.
  • Wide Market The courses are available in both the United States and the European Union.

Cons of AWOL Academy:

  • Beware of the BBB Complaints You should definitely be aware of the many complaints on the BBB (Better Business Bureau)  from people trying to get a refund for the product they purchased.
  • Expensive Products These products are not cheap! The products are not listed on the site in sequence by price but there seems to be a natural progression from one course to another. It seems a bit silly to pay $49 for the Internet Income Explained course. Based on the description, this is most likely information you can find for free with a simple Google search.

Is AWOL Academy A Legitimate Way to Make Money Online?

There are plenty of complaints about this business. The fact that there were so many people on the BBB website complaining about not getting a refund indicates that they were so unhappy with the product, they wanted a refund. Is it a legitimate way to make money online? The views by customers listed on the BBB are mixed so it’s hard to say. But there are also many complaints on other sites such as Sitejabber. Maybe the question really shouldn’t be if it’s a legitimate way to make money online. Maybe the question should be is your money better spent elsewhere?

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of companies out there that can teach you to make money online. Some might be great but very expensive and others are also great but much less expensive. I tried very hard to find someone–anyone–who could claim that they made decent money with these programs. I couldn’t find anyone. The reason behind the relaunch was due to the fact that they were being perceived as having deceptive advertising practices. Ads where you see someone living the high life driving up to a mansion in a fancy car or walking off a private jet. When you see those types of ads, you should move on anyway. So let’s tally it all up, shall we? If you were to take every single course you would be out of pocket by a whopping $10,886! Even if you didn’t take the Master Academy course at over $5,000 you would still be out over $5,000!

So What’s Really New Here?

With all this rebranding talk, what actually changed? I couldn’t find any information on what actual changes were made to change the negative perception out there. The relaunch included a 3-day retreat in Las Vegas in August 2019 but there’s no information on what improvements have been made. Awol Academy Awaken Let’s be honest. $5,000 is a lot of money to spend on a product especially if you are unsure of the outcome. But what if you could spend far less and get a great outcome? What if you could learn all the ins and outs of building a home business that included two websites, hosting, tools, training, great community of over 2 million members and support? Check out my #1 recommended method can help beginners as well as more experienced people learn how to create their own online income.

  1. I actually bought the $99 pro program. It is very helpful in the websites and programs required to create a good online advertising website and funnels and email responders and all of that. The whole set up they do explain and helpful. My biggest complaint is 2 fold. They do not tell you how to actually get clients to send emails to. They tell you what website is best to manage them but they do not provide any information in to how to actually obtain them as they hide that information in their next pay program which costs way too much money. Another thing they do not tell you, besides their program price is you will spend at least $1,000 in just buying a years worth of programs and website us (like domain and autoresponders). That doesn’t include extra money you will spend on advertisement expenses which can cost like a minimum of $5 daily. Which will bring the total to over 1K for sure. I haven’t fully tried this online advertising so i can not speak on results but if you still want to try go ahead you might have better luck, but just be aware of expenses. Do not attempt this if you do not already have a paying job or a decent amount of money you are able to spare and risk of making any money. It is doable but just be aware of the expenses.

  2. Thanks Jay. Thanks for doing this AWOL academy review. I must say that i was immediately shocked by the pricing for the different programs. They all seemed pricey to me. I can understand that what the Masters Academy training is supposed tp deliver could be worth a lot to someone if they are able to master what is thought, but a price tag of basically $5,500 sounds really exorbitant to me.

Do you know if the negative perception about the company was caused by the high cost of the products and also possibly the complaints lodged with the BBB? Could that have been a major factor in the decision to relaunch the program in 2019

  3. In Aug 2018, my very close up with AWOL. AWOL charged 10K for outdated materials, coaching promises that disappeared in 2 weeks (his coach quit), and now the company has reorganized with a new name. Their guarantee was worthless–I did all the training, paid extra for mentors in their community, attended their webinars, spent thousands on ads, followed everything to a T and didn’t make a penny. Buyer beware. Don’t give them anything until they refund everyone they provided crappy training and materials to. Slick, slippery, dishonest sales people.i have write a lot of reviews about just like this one I am writing now so people don’t fall prey. Good luck, everyone.

  4. I heard about AWOL years ago and I was not impressed then, and I’m still not impressed.$49 to be taught to learn the very basics of IM doesn’t seem worth it. AWOL should include strategies or include the info from “Pro Academy” instead of selling it separately; Only (like you said) because learning the basics of IM can easily be found via Google. The other courses seem overpriced too.

  5. hello, it is a great and nice feeling to know that someone will create a great website like this and also create a write up on an article like this. i knew little about awol academy before now and i was wondering why a friend of mine rated it low. i am glad i read you r article. thank you very much

  6. Thanks for the great review! They have very high prices, but the information provided is so simple, it makes no sense to pay so much money for it. I will know what needs to be kept away from such an AWOL Academy, it is unfortunate that many people fall for their tricks and such a company makes a lot of money from innocent people. Have a nice day!

  7. Hello Jay. Thank you for the AWOL Academy Review. The information that you provided is leading me to stay away from AWOL. The price tags for the courses are so pricey and I am not sure what I would get if I did purchase any of the courses. I wouldn’t mind paying a small monthly fee for access to courses as I need them, but the amount they are looking for would break my bank. I wouldn’t need to start an online business if I had that kind of money laying around. This is something I need to stay away from as a struggling online business owner.

  8. Hey, I enjoy a lot while reading your review on AWOL academy and find is very useful. Your step by step process is very help for everyone to know about AWOL academy. It is very expensive for beginners like me. While reading I know that there are a lot of companies out there that can teach you to make money online. Your first recommendation is very helpful for me. I started my business with wealthy affiliate. I found it provide world class training with 100% support.

  9. Hi Jay! Thanks for sharing the in’s and out’s of AWOL Academy. I honestly, was not suprised by what I learned. Sadly, too many innocent people get sucked into these so called amazing opportunities. Like you mentioned in your article, what in the world would I be paying for? Internet Income Explained, $49, I’m pretty sure that I can learn what internet income is and more with a simple google search. Those prices are ridiculous and I can’t imagine anyone paying that kind of money for a program that isn’t VERY clear on what they are offering. However, I know it happens. I just hope that anyone who might be considering AWOL Acadamy reads this article and allows you to show them how to actually start making money for free, before we see them at the BBB looking for their money.

  10. Hello Jay. Thanks for sharing your review of AWOL. From what I have read so far, I can see that this program could actually be a program that would really teach people how to start a business online and succeed. Well let’s take that with a pinch of salt. However, this program is so freaking EXPENSIVE. I’d not pay $5000 to learn how to make money online because there is no guarantee that I’d even make the money. Moreso, it’s very troubling to see that we’d have to pay $49 for the Internet Income Explained course. That’s an information that should be included free of charge. The complaints that are unresolved in BBB are just too much compared to the ones that have been resolved. So, AWOL is not to be trusted.

  11. Thank you for your post. It is useful for me. I started my online business for a while now and am actively looking for money-making opportunity and making money online training program to improve my skill. Program like AWOL Academy can be the program for me to pursue.

I like your straightforward review on the program. I particularly like your summary of the Pros and Cons of the program. It is indeed that the products are not cheap. You are right that it is silly to pay $49 hard earned money for a course, which can be find for free with a simple Google search. It is apparently that this is not something I will invest on.

It is kind of you sharing this useful information with us.

  12. $5,000.00 you said? If I could expend that type of money on training I’d be in the position of not needing that training in the first place. Commonsense is the less we have nowadays. I’ve fallen for the “Money Back Guarantee” too many times before. People just don’t realize how fast the weeks go by. We are leaving a very accelerated type of life and when we raise our head from being concentrated surviving our daily task lists; Guess what?, your “Money Back Guarantee” expired yesterday!

I like the alternative option you introduced at the end of the post. There are plenty of people helping as part of an active community and as you mentioned before,  it’s free to try (without CC registration).

Thank you a lot for this great recommendation!

  13. Thank you for this article!  I found your review complete and very informative.  Your information and breakdown of the company and the different packages they promote were complete.  I appreciate that you mentioned the Better Business Bureau complaints this company has.  Many people forget to look into that when considering such a large purchase.  Your pros and cons were helpful, and this is something I will take a pass on.

  14. Hey Jay, thanks for this comprehensive and balanced review.  It seems that they offer some courses but without much more detail I would look elsewhere anyway. I kind of feel that it’s so money oriented, that the only reason they want to teach it is so they can make money from people joining.

Do they show any experience from actually running a separate internet business? It’s also a concern that they split the partnership,  this is a very borderline company.

It all sounds a bit dodgy to me and those BBB complaints would definitely stop me from trying them.

You have a really great writing style, so easy to read and I will be looking into your other option.

    Thanks

    Lily
