You may think that selling beauty products to earn extra money is an easy work from home opportunity. There are plenty of beauty products out there and women love them. So it would stand to reason that they would be an easy sell, right? Maybe. I guess it would all depend on the products and their reputation. Jeunesse is an MLM company that has a catalog full of skin care products and other products that look like they could be pretty easy to sell. In this Jeunesse MLM review, you’ll find out if this is really an opportunity you should take advantage of or not. It may not be as easy as it seems.
What is Jeunesse MLM?
Jeunesse MLM is a multi-level marketing company. It was founded in 2009 by Randy Ray and Wendy Lewis and is headquartered in Lake Mary, Florida. Their initial collection of products was called Y.E.S. This stands for Youth Enhancement System. Their product line is focused around anti-aging products and supplements. There are over 500,000 distributors in their worldwide network. According to Business Wire, they are one of the fastest growing companies with sales hitting $1 billion in 2015.
Are Jeunesse Products Worth Their Price?
Jeunesse products are mainly anti-aging skincare products but they also sell other products such as vitamins and other health supplements. Your starter kit comes with the following products:
Retail price: $137.95; Wholesale price: $89.95/60 CV
Luminesce Advanced Night Repair:
Retail price: $99.95; Wholesale price: $69.95/50 CV
Luminesce Daily Moisturizing Complex:
Retail price: $69.95; Wholesale price: $49.95/36 CV
Instantly Ageless (1box):
Retail price: $74.95: Wholesale price: $44.95/30 CV
You can see by the prices listed above that these products are pretty expensive when compared to other similar products. For example, a similar product to the Luminesce Serum would be the Boots No.7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum. The Boots No. 7 brand costs $29.95 and has a very good reputation. In fact, a BBC documentary said that this product was the only product on the market that had proven anti-aging benefits according to independent researchers. The No. 7 product is almost $100 cheaper and has proven effectiveness.
According to my research, the Jeunesse products do not have any statistics around their effectiveness or how your skin may respond to their use.
You can also see that each Jeunesse product above also indicates its CV value. This is the commission volume value attached to each product. Your commissions will be partly based on the your monthly CV sold.
The Jeunesse MLM Opportunity
MLM opportunities like Jeunesse require that you sell products and recruit people to join your team. The more products you can sell the more money you can make. In this case, you buy products at wholesale prices and sell them at retail prices.
To get started, you’ll need to purchase a kit. Your membership also includes your own website where you can promote products online, 24/7 training, business tools, your own business app and social media resources.
By creating a team, you can earn residual income from sales made by your team. If you manage to work your way up the ladder you can qualify for trips to places like Iceland, Japan, Europe, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
How Much Does It Cost to Join Jeunesse?
To Join Jeunesse you will be required to buy a Starter Kit which costs $49.95. There is also an annual renewal fee of $19.95. The renewal fee can be waived if you can maintain 360 CV in accumulated auto shipments during the year.
Other costs would include any additional costs that are not covered by your distributor contract. So your personal expenses such as gas to/from customers, phone calls, meetings, or any accessory items you need for your business are not recoverable expenses. You pay for those yourself.
Can You Make Money with Jeunesse?
To make money with the Jeunesse products, you purchase the products at wholesale prices which are around 40% less than the suggested retail price. These prices are also up to 15% off the prices for preferred customers. So you earn the difference between the wholesale price and the retail price you sell to your customers. Below is the Online Customer Sales commission structure.
Another way to earn money is by recruitment. Getting people to join your team means that you will earn additional commissions from products sold by your sales team.
In order for you to continue to to receive commissions you also have to sell or purchase a minimum amount of products each month.
Decent Membership Package
Your membership package is only $49.95 and includes four sample products as well as a website, business tools, social media tools and a social media app.
Low Minimum Sales Requirement
In order to remain as a distributor, you need only sell 100 CV in a month within your first year. You’ll also need to purchase or sell 60 CV of product each month.
30-Day Refund Policy
If you decide that being a Jeunesse distributor isn’t what you bargained for, you can get a full refund if you resign within the first 30 days of your contract. If you resign within a year, you can expect a 90% refund.
Jeunesse has partnered with WE Charity to offer higher education to students in Kenya. This is a $1 million Jeunesse project to build a fully functional college and is expected to open in 2022.
High Group Volume Requirements
In order for you to earn team commissions, your team has to meet a minimum sales quota each month. If they don’t, you won’t qualify for any residual income.
Very Pricey Products
Trying to sell pricey products will be very difficult when people know that there are similar products out there that are far cheaper and just as effective if not more effective.
No FDA Approval
These products fall into the cosmetic category so there’s no FDA approval.
Poor Customer Service
The poor customer service also goes hand in hand with customers who are disappointed with the products and the prices. According to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) customers who have tried to contact customer service have been put on hold indefinitely, a complaint that a customer purchased counterfeit products, and complaints about misleading shipment dates from Jeunesse distributors.
There have been a few lawsuits over the years. One of which was a class action lawsuit that accused Jeunesse of misrepresenting the business opportunity. Plaintiffs in the suit allege that they earned very little money and the money they did earn did not cover the cost of the starter kit.
Is Jeunesse a Scam?
It’s hard to say if Jeunesse MLM is a scam but I can tell you that this business model is typical of most MLM business models. You buy a kit and sell products. If you don’t sell products or can’t sell enough you earn very little money. These opportunities are probably not for people who want to earn a full-time income to sustain their lifestyle.
One thing to keep in mind here is that you will have hidden expenses that you are not reimbursed for. So any phone calls you make or product deliveries, etc., will all be paid for out of your own pocket. You are an independent contractor. When you subtract your expenses from your commissions, you will probably find that you are not making the kind of money you had anticipated.
