It’s no secret that people can be a little shy when it comes to getting their picture taken or being in videos. But if your business requires demonstrations or could be enhanced by adding videos to your site, MugJam could be the answer for you. In this MugJam Review, I will show you how MugJam can be used to create your own personal avatars that you can customize using a variety of different features to create videos.

What Exactly is MugJam?

Mugjam ReviewMugJam is a new video avatar product created by Todd Gross and a team of developers. Todd Gross is an interesting character in his own right. He’s a certified Meteorologist and professional broadcaster, full-time Internet marketer and video marketing expert. He’s also a top affiliate product promoter for JVZoo and Warrior Forum. But let’s get back to MugJam. MugJam is a video product that allows you to create an avatar of yourself that can be used for videos and product promotions. It comes with a range of features that you can use to enhance your video avatar such as lip syncing with your own voice. All avatars come with automatic head turns, artificial teeth creation and natural facial movements among other features. These avatars are created in 3D and can lip sync with your own voice using a text-to-speech engine.

Who Is MugJam For?

MugJam can be used by anyone who uses video to connect with their customers or audience. These video avatars can be an additional way to extend your reach with your website. So if you are in the habit of cranking out written content on your website, adding videos can help further connect with your audience.  You can create a video spokesperson for a product you are promoting or use an avatar of a client to create a video to help them promote their business or product..

How Does MugJam Work?

First, you’ll need to choose the option best suited for you. To get started with MugJam, all you need to do is upload a picture of yourself to the application and MugJam automatically creates an avatar of your face. After that, you can use ready-made templates and start creating your video. To get an understanding of what your avatar could look like, have a look at the video below. This video was created using a template.

What Do You Get With MugJam?

What you get with MugJam will depend on the package you choose. MugJam comes with video tutorials to help you create your avatars and add a voice to them. All videos are created in 1080p no matter what option you choose. All options have a commercial license so you can sell the videos you create with your avatars. There are four different options to choose from. The minimum option is MugJam Premium. The options are outlined below:

MugJam Premium:

This minimum option is a one-time fee priced between $47-$67. This is the bare minimum option in order to use any upgrades.

MugJam Pro:

This option allows you to create unlimited avatars. You can also create a green screen video and upload up to five minutes of video to multiple platforms such as Youtube, Vimeo and Twitter. You’ll also receive an additional 50+ voice models as well as VIP Support for a one-time fee of $37.

MugJam Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • No Need For Expensive Video Equipment You don’t need to have a video camera or hire an expensive videographer to create a video for your business or even a client’s business.
  • Customer Avatars If your customers don’t have time to do a video for their business, you can use an image of your client to create the video yourself instead of hiring a random person at an additional expense.
  • Avatar Resolution The avatar resolution is pretty good, I must say. When you compare the likenesses of the original photos with the 3D avatar images, they are very lifelike.
  • Green Screen Background You don’t have to use the templates if you don’t want to. You can import your avatar with a green screen background to third-party video editing apps like Camtasia.
  • Many Languages Supported MugJam supports over 144 languages making it useful for creating videos that can be viewed in many countries. All major languages are supported as well as some of the less common languages such as Swahili, Urdu, Welsh, Yiddish and more. MugJam supplies a list of languages that can be viewed by going to link provided on the website.
  • Unlimited Projects MugJam allows you to create as many projects as you like no matter what package you choose.
  • Windows Or Mac? MugJam works on most browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera as it is a cloud-based application.

Cons:

  • Looking VERY Robotic As I said above, the 3D avatar images that MugJam creates are of good quality but that’s kind of where it ends. When you look at a sample video and see the mouth and eyes moving, it definitely looks like a computer generated person and looks quite robotic. You have to ask yourself if that’s the image of yourself or your customer that you want out there. Afterall, if the avatar is going to be a face for your business, you have to decide if it’s good enough. And do you really want something that’s just “good enough?”
  • Maximum Video Length Is Too Short If you make the minimum purchase of the Premium package, the maximum video upload length is only two minutes. For the MugJam Pro package, the maximum length is only five minutes.
  • No Company Information MugJam PTE Ltd. seems to be a new company. Company information on the website indicates that it is registered and located in India so there’s no information on the BBB  (Better Business Bureau) website.
  • Getting Support With MugJam In order to get support here, you can email the support desk or create a support ticket. There’s no phone number and the Support address is in India.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve watched the video above, you will see that the guy looks pretty realistic, right? Almost. Yes. His eyes and mouth move but is it realistic to you? Todd Gross and his developers have created a product that has lots of features but feels a little lacking. I’m not sure it’s worth the time and effort to create an avatar and then create a video for your site when you can simply use YouTube. Not to mention the restrictions on the length of the videos. When it comes to your online business, your audience needs to know that you are a real person–flaws and all. Making YouTube videos isn’t that hard to do. And buying a little video camera from a place like Amazon doesn’t have to cost a fortune. If you are interested in learning how to make and promote videos, check out my top recommended source for training, support and tools. You want your business to be successful but this product could potentially hurt your brand. Your audience needs to trust you. This product gives your audience a computerized version of you so I cannot, in good faith, recommend this product. There are better ways to promote your website.Take the money you would spend on this product, buy a little video camera make your own videos. That way, you own everything and you don’t need a commercial license!

  1. Hi, Jay.
Thanks for sharing the unbiased review on Mugjam.  It was my pleasure to go through the content as I was looking for this kind of information for a long time. Your review helped me to decide on the purchase decision. As you suggested, making our own videos will be a better option as the camera is not an issue nowadays.
    Warm Regards,
    Gaurav Gaur

  2. Thank you for your post. I started my online business for a while now and always want to video on my site. But I am an introvert and shy before the video, which prevent to move forward.

Your review on MugJam gives me the solution. Now it is possible to use the MugJam to create live video for my website. I like to idea of enhancing my video avatar through lip syncing with my own voice. It is nice to have automatic head turns, teeth movement, and facial expressions.

It is kind of you sharing this useful information with and I am excited to add some life to my website.

  3. I know of some video makers like this. The ones I have seen so not create an avatar of anybody. They already have some avatars inside and voices too. Although they don’t look real (like humans) they look more suitable to me unlike this MugJam software. Looks so f**King ROBOTIC!!! Not interesting….

    Best Regards!

  4. Hi Jay,

Thanks for sharing this review of MugJam. I have heard of the name Todd Gross while I was in some make money online platform. He was among the top affiliate there.

MugJam looks really cool anyways but, I don’t like it in a bit. It’s so robotic (both face and looks). It can serve some needs anyways and I like the one payment fee too.

  5. WOW! This thing is so cool. I recently wanted to open a YouTube channel for myself, but I don’t want to show myself because I am very shy. If MugJam can really help me, I think I will definitely use it. I really can’t wait. If it can be cheaper, I think it should be worth buying.

  6. Wow I am one of those people who does not like picture taking or be in videos. With this information concerning MugJam I can use successfully with my affiliate marketing business. With the unlimited projects pro feature, this mean can make multiple videos for different products for affiliate marketers? The con mention of getting support by support desk or ticket, how long does it take to address support tickets submitted?

  7. I’ve always wanted to have videos on YouTube and also for my site but I’m just not the kind of a person who would want to buy lots of cams and start getting shot videos, I think Mugjam would be really a good opportunity to see how it may work out. I also like the fact that the prices for the packages are real affordable although the time limits for the length of the videos are quite short.  Do they provide any free mode account where I can get to try them out or I have to subscribe first to get started?

  8. I was unfamiliar with Mug Jam before I can across your review. I was looking for an avatar creator, although I didn’t imagine I would find one that was as realistic as this one it does appear a little robotic but I’m still impressed! You are right about the lips moving though, maybe if we could just use the image with a background voice doing all of the commentary? Thank you for the review, though, I will think about it and continue researching my options.

  9. With no doubt, reaching out to your audience can be done in so many ways and using video is a new one that is now very prominent. Mugjam is a good option to consider, I love the tutorial aspect because most of the time, it’s always difficult to follow up some of the process so you need to Know how to operate it but those cons are not to be left untreated especially the length part. Thanks.

  10. Mugjam has a very bright initiative that I feel can layer become a huge success. When it comes to marketing through videos, people give more attention to animations and other video forms rather than watching just the ordinary. The creativity in itself would help to sell however, this still feels sort of robotic and needs more than just the ordinary tweaks to make things work out for it. Thanks for sharing this

  11. maybe not a good idea to spam your site with a jazillion “give me your email” pop ups before i have a chance to read half a sentence of your content.
