Direct selling isn’t what it used to be. And it seems easy to forge a work from home lifestyle selling products and making commissions. But can you make decent money selling products if you are only making commissions? In this Plexus Worldwide MLM review, I’ll take a look at the products and the commission structure to see if this is a decent opportunity for you or not.

What is Plexus Worldwide MLM?

Let’s get started with a little background on the company. Plexus Worldwide is a multi-level marketing (MLM) company founded by Tarl Robinson and Alfred Pettersen in 2006. The headquarters is located in Scottsdale, Arizona and the products are available in Canada, Mexico and Australia. Their product line include weight loss products, skincare, vitamins and protein drinks and bars. In 2017, they had an estimated $562 million in revenue. It’s #30 in the Direct Selling News. It’s also listed as one of the top twelve places to work and has over 700,000 Ambassadors.

Are Plexus Products Worth Their Price?

Plexus sell a range of different products including nutrition, weight management, skincare and even vitamins for kids. One of the most popular products is a weight loss product called Plexus Slim. This product is designed to make you feel full so you don’t eat as much. You drink one serving 30-60 minutes before a meal and it can be used twice a day. There are 30 sachets per package. By drinking two a day, the package will only last 15 days. That means this product costs $180 per month without a subscription or $170 with a subscription. It comes in several different flavours and one serving is only 20 calories. Ingredients include Polydextrose which is an appetite suppressant. Other ingredients are Chromium Polynicotinate, green coffee bean extract, Garcinia Cambogia, citric acid, Stevia, and beet root extract among others. These products are not regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) so they do not have to prove they are safe or effective. Plexus Worldwide Mlm Review - Products Contrast that price with a similar product found on Amazon. Same 30 packets. Both products have similar appetite suppression ingredients. The Amazon product will cost you around $60 per month. The Plexus Worldwide product is around three times the price. That’s a huge difference in price.  So I think it’s safe to say that there are other comparable products out there that are cheaper.

The Plexus Worldwide MLM Opportunity

For people who love vitamins, signing up as a Plexus Worldwide Ambassador will give you a 25% discount on all products automatically provided you buy a membership. With all the emphasis on health these days, selling vitamins could be a lucrative opportunity for you. In the case of Plexus, you’ll need to at least have a current membership to get started as an Ambassador. These products may be exclusive but similar products can be found for a cheaper price elsewhere so they could be a tough sell.

How Much Does It Cost to Join Plexus Worldwide?

When you sign up with Plexus, you need to buy a membership at the very minimum. The cost of a membership is $39.95. You don’t necessarily have to buy a starter kit but I can’t see how you can earn money without one. Starter kits range in price from $99 to $199 depending on whether the kits are on sale or not. Below are just a few of the starter kits you can choose from. Plexus Worldwide Mlm Review - Starter Kits This allows you to buy the products at whole sale prices. Your membership is annually renewed and covers a website provided by Plexus. In order to qualify for commissions, you need to have the Autoship turned on. Autoship means that you receive a choice of products monthly. Other expenses you can expect are your day to day business expenses such as phone calls and travel expenses. These expenses are not reimbursable.

Can You Make Money with Plexus Worldwide?

There are many levels you can work up to with Plexus but it will require recruiting others to join you. There are ten levels you can work your way up to that are a combination of sales and recruitment. For the really ambitious, start off with the Fast Start Program. You’ll earn a $100 bonus if you sponsor three new Ambassadors within the first 30 days. That’s part of the 30-day Goal challenge. There’s also a 60 and 90-day Goal challenges. All products have an associated PV (Personal Volume). One of the things you should be aware of is that you don’t earn any commissions on 0-99 PV. Commissions begin at 100 PV and above. Commission rates are 15% and 25%. For 100-499.99 PV, it’s 15%. For 500 PV and up, it’s 25%.

Plexus Worldwide Mlm Review - Earnings

Above is information from the Plexux 2016 U.S. Income Disclosure Statement. You’ll notice that basic Ambassadors make up 82.41% of all Ambassador levels yet only made $301 that year.

Pros:

Preferred Customer Your customers can subscribe as Preferred Customers which will give them discounts on products. In turn, you receive a commission. 60-Day Money Back Product Guarantee One selling point to these products is the 60-day money-back guarantee. But there is a specific process a customer must go through in order to get that refund. If the proper forms are not filled out or filled out incorrectly, the refund will be delayed. You Keep Commissions on Returns Customers will return products from time to time. Any commissions already disbursed are not refundable to a customer.

Cons:

Income Misrepresentation According to Truth In Advertising, there are a lot of problems with this company. One of the biggest being misrepresentation around the amount of money Ambassadors can make. The real truth is that most Ambassadors earn less than $500 per year. Product Health Warnings Unfortunately, Plexus Worldwide has had its share of problems with their products. In this lawsuit, Plexus was sued because two of their products, 96 Protein Go-Pack Chocolate and Fast Relief contained lead. The company was warned about the problem but never addressed the issue or disclose it to the public. Product Misrepresentation Breast Check Recheck is one of Plexus Worldwide’s first products. It’s a reusable kit that is supposed to be a self-check for breast lumps. Plexus had claimed that this product was recommended by doctors and nurses. Some Ambassadors also claimed that the kits had been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). They were  not. In fact, the American Cancer Society (ACS) asked Plexus to stop using its name in promotions connected to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. ACS did not teamed up with Plexus despite what some Ambassadors had claimed. BBB Complaints Plexus Worldwide is registered with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) but their status is listed as NR–No Rating. No Rating means that there is not enough company information or that the business is under review. Plexus Worldwide Mlm Review - Complaint There are 75 complaints listed at the time of this writing. One of which is a product complaint where the customer broke out in a rash. Plexus Worldwide has answered the BBB complaints for the most part, including this one, but a lot of the answers were unsatisfactory to the complainants. Good Luck Cancelling Ambassadors seem to have a hard time cancelling. There were BBB complaints that outlined Ambassadors trying to cancel their memberships yet still being hit with yearly fees even after they were assured their memberships were cancelled.

Is Plexus Worldwide a Scam?

One thing that gets to me about the Plexus compensation plan is that a starter kit is not required to become an Ambassador. It’s at your discretion. How could you possibly expect to sell products if you have no samples? There’s no way for a potential customer to gauge whether the products are any good or not. Customers can’t read a list of ingredients to see if they may be allergic to anything without seeing the product. Plexus Worldwide is not a scam but it is one more MLM that only pays on commissions. You don’t even qualify for commissions until you have 100 PV. So you don’t earn commissions on all sales. Only those sales in excess of 99 PV. Your membership must also be up to date.
