For anyone who loves skin care products, selling skin care products to friends and family seems like a no-brainer. You buy skin care products and make money, right? Maybe. The problem with these business models is that the expectations are high and the rewards are usually quite low. In this Rodan and Fields MLM Review, we look at how you can make money selling their products. It looks good on the outside, but you’ll probably be a bit disappointed with this one.

What is Rodan + Fields?
Rodan and Fields is a multi-level marketing (MLM) company founded in 2002 by dermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields. However, in 2003, it was acquired by Estee Lauder. Rodan and Fields bought the company back in 2007.
Its product line includes skin care products and accessories. In 2017, the company had sales of over $1.5 billion. In 2019, the company had over 200,000 consultants.
Are Rodan + Fields Products Worth Their Price?
When you fall in love with a product, it can become an expensive endeavor. If you want to continue using the product, it’s probably easier to just become a consultant so you can get a discount.
So let’s take a look at one of the most popular products – Redefine Multi-Function Eye Cream. The price for 0.5 fluid ounces is $70.

One thing I like about the site is that it lists good and bad reviews. Many websites only list positive product reviews. So that is a plus. There are 8,348 reviews for this product and it is rated an average of 4.6 out of 5.
The PC Perks Program
When customers sign up for the PC Perks Program, the price is $63. There’s a one-time fee of $19.95 and the customer must sign up with a consultant. With the Perks program, customers can purchase products at a 10% discount and free shipping on orders over $80. Customers sign up for a subscription to receive products every two months.
A common complaint about this product is that the formula has been changed and it’s supposed to be a new and improved eye cream. Complaints are that there’s less eye cream in it (smaller container), that it is not as effective as the previous formula, and that the price is still the same for less eye cream. The 5-star reviews give the product an excellent rating.
So are these products worth the price? There are similar products that are not nearly as expensive. For example, Estee Lauder’s Resilience Multi-Effect Eye Cream is listed on Amazon for $23.99. The size is the same: 0.5 ounces. The ingredients are different, but the purpose is the same.
The Rodan & Fields Opportunity
As a skin care consultant, you’ll get discounts on all products. You can also purchase an optional VIP box, which contains a box of skin care products specifically designed for your skin. This offer is only available to new consultants. Products are discounted more than 45% off retail prices and are only available for 60 days after enrollment.
How Much Does It Cost To Join Rodan & Fields?
You need to buy a Business Starter Pack for $75 to get started. Consultants buy products at a discount.
You are responsible for all personal expenses incurred while working for Rodan & Fields. So travel expenses such as gas, food, lodging, and phone calls will not be reimbursed.
You also set up your website with Rodan & Fields using the PULSE system. The first month is free, after that there is a monthly fee of $24.95.
Can You Make Money With Rodan & Fields?
You’ll earn money from products purchased by retail customers and preferred customers. Your income is the difference between the Consultant price and the Retail or Preferred Customer Price. Here’s an example:

Consultants also earn 10% on all sales made through people they refer. As you move up the ladder, you’ll continue to earn commissions on products sold by your team and on all people referred by your team.
To earn commissions, you must reach a sales volume (SV) of 100.
Here’s what you should know. The average consultant earns only $462 annually. That breaks down to $38.50 per month. Not exactly life-changing.
Pros of Rodan & Fields
No Minimum Monthly Purchases: As a consultant, you won’t have to make any minimum monthly purchases.
No Inventory: You can maintain your active status without carrying inventory.
No Experience Necessary: all training is provided.
Cons of Rodan & Fields
Expensive Products: You can purchase similar products elsewhere at a lower price without committing to a subscription.
FDA Approved Products: The wording on the website is not clear. The website states that the products are FDA compliant. This is not to suggest that the products are approved. They are not.
Eyelash Booster Lawsuit: A class action lawsuit has been filed against Rodan & Fields over the Lash Boost product, which is supposed to give you long, lush eyelashes. The retail price is $150. When using Lash Boost, the serum is applied to the skin around the eyes, but there is no indication of how much you should use.
This product contains isopropyl cloprostenate. The use of this product resulted in side effects such as flaky skin, burning sensation, eye irritation, dryness, redness and pain. The lawsuit alleges that the company did not fully inform customers about the potential side effects.
Is Rodan & Fields A Scam?
Rodan & Fields isn’t a scam. It is an MLM and you should be aware of how they work. You’ll need to make an initial monetary investment before you start making any money and even then there’s a minimum you must reach before your first payout.
Final Thoughts
Many people are looking for a way to make money in their spare time and perhaps turn this into a full time job if successful. As with all MLMs, your income is not guaranteed. And in this case, there are a few red flags that could prevent your success.

This is where I learned how to get started in online business and it is the only community that I trust for honest top level training on how to make money online. I highly recommend Wealthy Affiliate for its training, tools, live support and included hosting.
I have not heard of Rodan and Fields skin care products before, so it was interesting to see that this is another multilevel marketing (MLM) company. Although Rodan and Fields might be slightly different to other MLMs in that you do not need to carry inventory to maintain your status, average earnings of less than $40 per month is just not worth the time and effort. And then you still have pay your own expenses, which might actually put you in the red.
With a class action lawsuit against them, I will avoid Rodan and Fields. Has the Lash Boost serum been withdrawn from the market, or has the marketing material been updated to reflect possible side effects? Will Rodan and Field refund you if you have a negative reaction to any of their products?
