Best WordPress Themes for Nonprofits Reviews

Here are my reviews for each of these WordPress themes that I specifically think they would work well for any nonprofit organization. I have chosen themes that will fit in the typical tight budget for nonprofits and are diverse enough to make a beautiful looking website without the need of a coding expert.

#1 GeneratePress Theme

Pricing:Free and $59
How Many Websites:500
Mobile Friendly:Yes
Drag and Drop Builder:No
Money Back Guarantee:30 Days

The GeneratePress Theme for WordPress is my top recommendation because it is a super diverse theme that can be transformed into many different styles with no coding knowledge required.

I have used the GeneratePress Theme on over a dozen website (yes, I have over a dozen sites lol) and all of them look different AND are super fast on desktop or mobile.

Compared to other premium WordPress themes, the pricing for GeneratePress is a no brainer.

#2 Astra Theme

Pricing:$47
How Many Websites:Unlimited
Mobile Friendly:Yes
Drag and Drop Builder:Yes
Money Back Guarantee:14 Days

If you are looking for a drag and drop style of WordPress theme, Astra is my recommendation for that.

While I don't personally like using drag and drop WordPress themes because they can significantly increase the page load time for the website which can adversely affect the user experience; the Astra theme seems to be lightest of all drag and drop WordPress themes.

Compared to other premium drag and drop WordPress themes, the Astra pricing seems fair.

#3 Hiero Theme

Pricing:Free
How Many Websites:Unlimited
Mobile Friendly:Yes
Drag and Drop Builder:No
Money Back Guarantee:N/A

If you are looking for a super easy and quick solution to building a WordPress website and don't want to spend any money on themes, then Hiero is your quick solution.

The saying goes: “You get what you pay for” – this seem appropriate for the Hiero theme as it is pretty barebones with no a lot of fancy elements.

Perhaps this is a solution for your nonprofit if you are just getting started and have no budget to invest in the brand of your organization.

How to Choose a WordPress Theme: A Buyers Guide

I know how overwhelming it can be when looking for a WordPress theme as there are so many choices of themes with so many variables to choose from. So what should you look for with a WordPress theme? Here is a quick buyers guide to help you make your selection.

Diversity

A WordPress Theme should come with several options that are offered within its own dashboard. This could range from font selection to overall layout – but it should all be in one area to select from.

Responsive

Google has stated that they are now a mobile first search engine which means they are specifically looking for mobile friendly websites. Your WordPress theme should be mobile friendly right out of the box.

SEO Friendly

Although using a SEO plugin is ideal for creating meta titles and meta descriptions, having a theme that compliments other SEO plugins (All in One SEO, Yoast, SmartCrawl Pro etc) is an awesome feature to have.

Support

I think this is one of the most important features of any premium WordPress theme for nonprofits. If you ever run into any issue or simply have a question, you need to be able to reach out to the theme developer or a full time support staff for answers.

When using free WordPress themes, don't expect to get any support when you need it as most free themes are created by developers who are have better interests in their paid products.

Which is the Best WordPress Theme for Nonprofits?

Regardless of your nonprofit organization, there is a WordPress theme available for your budget and needs. My #1 choice of WordPress themes for nonprofits is the GeneratePress theme.

The GeneratePress theme is really easy to use with little to no maintenance that needs to be done.

  2. Regarding nonprofit sites, as far as I see they’ll either be hobby sites (personal blogs), informational sites (Wikipedia), or charity sites. Each one of these has different types of themes which generally speaking will most of the time be best for them.

Hobby sites will vary the most, depending on how much or how little the owner wants to customize and what it’s about. Informational sites need simplistic, themes with the ability to cleanly add many images. Charity sites in my experience tend to focus the most on big images and touching headlines. They also need professional and clean informational pages, as well as easy to see donate button redirects.
